Oscars 2024: Jennifer Lawrence is effortlessly elegant in black Dior polka dot gown as she graces the Academy Awards for first time since 2018 to present Best Actress

Jennifer Lawrence was as elegant as ever as she arrived at the 2024 Academy Awards on Sunday, marking her grand return to the ceremony for the first time since 2018.
The 33-year-old actress, who made her return to the ceremony to join four other past winners to present the Oscar for Best Actress, had all eyes on her in a reserved but lovely black Dior gown decorated with polka dots.
The 96th Academy Awards honored the best films of 2023, with the glittering ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
The most hotly anticipated movies of the past year — Barbie and Oppenheimer — led the nominations, and Christopher Nolan’s biopic about the father of the atomic bomb took home the top award.
Jennifer’s stunned on the red carpet in the shoulder-baring ensemble, with one half-sleeve draped over a shoulder and the other wrapped around her arm.

The luxurious dress featured a flowing skirt that reached down to the ground, nearly covering up her open-toe black heels.
The Dior ambassador added some sparkle to the ensemble with a tasteful diamond necklace and a matching bracelet that glittered in the light.
Jennifer was impeccably made up with a modest pale pink lip, and she wore her lustrous blond locks parted at the side and swept back to reveal her Briony Raymond Collection 12-carat diamond and platinum studs.
The actress was seen just the day before as she went to a hair salon appointment to get her glamorous look ready.
She starred last year in the raunchy sex comedy No Hard Feelings, which received relatively strong reviews and a solid box office haul.
Jennifer supported her good friend Emma Stone, who is nominated this year in the Best Actress category for Poor Things.

Jennifer was lured back to the Oscars after years away so that she could join four other iconic actresses who had previously won the Best Actress award to present this year’s nominees.

Other stars presenting the awards included last year’s winner, Michelle Yeoh, as well as Charlize Theron, Sally Field and Jessica Lange.
Jennifer sang the praises of Killers Of The Flower Moon breakout star Lily Gladstone, though it was ultimately Jennifer’s good friend Emma Stone who won.
She proved to be a supremely graceful winner, though, and she began her tear-filled acceptance speech by praising Lily and sharing her hopes that the time they had spent together on the awards circuit wouldn’t come to an end.
Oppenheimer bagged 13 nods this year, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy — who won after being the favorite to win the major category after scooping a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a SAG award for his role as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.
The impressive total — which include Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt, as well as Best Director for Christopher Nolan — is just one nomination short of the all-time record set by Titanic in 1998.
Downey Jr. and Nolan triumphed in both of their categories.
Last year’s other smash hit movie, Barbie, was nominated for eight awards, but also missed out on some notable categories.
Its star Margot Robbie was not nominated for Best Actress, while Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director.

Downey Jr. and Nolan triumphed in both of their categories.
Last year’s other smash hit movie, Barbie, was nominated for eight awards, but also missed out on some notable categories.
Its star Margot Robbie was not nominated for Best Actress, while Greta Gerwig was not nominated for Best Director.
Another surprise saw America Ferrera nominated for Best Supporting Actress over her role in Barbie, with pundits saying her character’s impassioned speech on feminism sealed the deal.
Barbie’s other nominations included Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling and two nods for Best Song, including Gosling’s famed I’m Just Ken.
Notably, both Robbie and Robbie still secured nominations, as Robbie was a producer on the film and so is nominated for Best Picture, while Gerwig was nominated with her husband Noah Baumbach for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The second most-nominated movie was Poor Things, a graphic art house comedy starring Emma Stone that has wowed critics and earned more than $100 million against a $35 million budget.
Stone plays a sex-crazed young woman, with her performance wowing critics. She previously won Best Actress in 2017 for her performance in La La Land.
For Best Actor in a leading role, Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy duked it out for the award, with Murphy winning his first Oscar for Oppenheimer. Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright received nominations as well.
Leonardo DiCaprio was snubbed for his acting in Martin Scorsese’s critically acclaimed Western crime epic Killers Of The Flower Moon.
Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things took home 11 Oscar nominations and Killers Of The Flower Moon landed 10.

Annette Bening, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan and Emma Stone were nominated for Best Actress in a leading role.
Gladstone was the first Native American nominated for Best Actress — and only the second Indigenous actress — for her performance in Killers Of The Flower Moon, and she had been the favorite in the category thanks to her wins at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, though Emma won after previously taking home the Bafta.
What Was I Made For by Billie Eilish and I’m Just Ken, performed by Ryan Gosling from Barbie, received their expected nominations for Best Original Song, with Eilish’s tune nabbing the award.
Sterling K. Brown, Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr., Ryan Gosling and Mark Ruffalo received nominations for Best Supporting Actor, with Downey emerging triumphant.
Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks, America Ferrera, Jodie Foster and Da’Vine Joy Randolph received nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
Randolph already had Golden Globe, Bafta, Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild awards and was the favorite for an Oscar for her performance as a bereaved cook in The Holdovers, which she ultimately won.
Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer were nominated for Best Directing, while Greta Gerwig didn’t make the cut for Barbie.
Gerwig was nominated for Best Director in 2018 for her solo directorial debut, Lady Bird. Only three women have won Oscars for Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow, Chloe Zhao and Jane Campion.
Though Nolan is regarded as the big-budget auteur of his era, he had never won an Academy Award, nor had any of his films won Best Picture.

That all changed when he and his film Oppenheimer won.
Bradley Cooper was not nominated for directing Maestro but he was recognized for his acting in that biopic.
American Fiction, Anatomy Of A Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone Of Interest made up the Best Picture category.
Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the ceremony for the fourth time.
