I almost never have to worry about getting a table at a restaurant, which is a huge bonus.’ While the atmosphere on set was fun and lively, Scarlett also opened up about the challenges she’s faced on her acting path during the interview.”

Truth teller: If acting paid her next to nothing, Scarlett said she would still happily do the job

Champion of candor: Scarlett explained that even if the pay wasn’t substantial, she would happily keep working towards her acting career.

Opening up: The 34-year-old was candid about the good and the bad in her industry

Looking back: She recalled a particularly tough time with director Jonathan Glazer while shooting Under the Skin where she was distraught about his behavior.

Telling her story: The 34-year-old didn’t hold back in sharing the highs and lows of her time in the industry. She revealed a tough moment she faced while working on the film Under the Skin alongside director Jonathan Glazer. Throughout filming, she found herself constantly soaked from the rainy and snowy weather on set. Despite the costume director’s efforts to keep her warm with a jacket between takes, Glazer intervened and put an end to it. She jokingly remembered shooting him an intense look and thinking, “I’m going to get you for this.”

Rough times: Director Jonathan Glazer once instructed the the costume director to stop Scarlett a warm jacket in between takes to make sure she was feeling the cold

In a difficult situation during filming, Director Jonathan Glazer considerately asked the costume director to give Scarlett a cozy jacket during breaks to keep her warm in the chilly weather.

'If I wanted to decide to be wet and cold in order to feel wet and cold I¿ll make that choice myself, you know? But, sometimes directors imagine that they can do something like that.'

“I prefer to be in control of how I feel, especially if it means feeling wet and cold,” revealed the actress. She mentioned her ability to convincingly portray the sensation of being cold on screen, even down to not being able to feel her feet or toes. According to her, some directors try to orchestrate that experience for the actors, but she believes it’s more authentic when she chooses to embody it herself. Reflecting on her journey in the industry since starting out as a child actor, the acclaimed actress acknowledged the significant changes that have taken place. Scarlett recently came under fire for accepting a role as a transgender character, ultimately opting to step away from the project due to backlash. While she initially stood her ground on keeping the role, the mounting pressure became too much to bear, prompting her to relinquish it.

Drama: Recently Scarlett not-so-gracefully bowed out of an upcoming project as a trans character following significant backlash that the role wasn't given to a trans actor.

There was some recent excitement when Scarlett decided to leave an upcoming project where she was playing a transgender character. This decision came after facing criticism for not casting a transgender actor for the role.

Touchy topic: She addressed was she called the 'political correctness' in casting without directly mentioning her controversial casting in Rub & Tug

Sensitive topic: She brought up the concept of political correctness in casting, carefully avoiding direct mention of her involvement in the controversial film Rub & Tug. Her stance was that actors should be able to play any role, whether it’s a person, plant, or animal, as it’s part of their job. Expanding on her thoughts, she emphasized the need to consider social factors in casting choices, while also highlighting the significance of artistic expression. She proposed that respecting differing viewpoints without pushing one’s own beliefs could promote stronger connections within society.

'You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job,' she said point blank.

She confidently expressed, “In my opinion, as an actress, I am able to take on any character, whether it’s a person, a tree, or an animal. It’s all just part of the job and what it entails.”

'I feel like it¿s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions.'

In the field I work in, I have observed a change occurring due to societal factors. While I recognize its significance, I worry that it may sometimes hinder the pure essence of art. I strongly believe that art should be unbounded and reflective of the creator’s true vision. In my extensive experience in the entertainment industry, I have often found that the final product presented to the audience may deviate from what I had originally envisioned during the creative process. This variance can be both disheartening and pleasantly surprising on occasions. Moreover, the way I interpret a character or role may not always align with how it is perceived by the audience. For instance, in my role in Lost in Translation, many viewers interpret it as a story about someone feeling out of place in a foreign country.

Always a surprise: The star, who has been in the industry for much of her life, went on to explain that as someone in front of the camera, she rarely ends up with the movie she thought she was making

It’s always a delightful surprise when a seasoned actress, who has been in the show business for years, shares that the final cut of a movie often doesn’t match her initial vision. Recently, she opened up about how the film Lost in Translation struck a chord with her. She found the story particularly moving as it followed a young woman grappling with losing her innocence and forming a deep bond with a stranger during her personal journey. For her, the heart of the movie lay in the complex relationship between her character and Bill Murray’s character, rather than just the picturesque backdrop of a foreign land. The new and unfamiliar environment in the film played a vital role in offering her character a fresh perspective on life, free from the constraints and expectations of her everyday life.

'To me, Lost in Translation was so specific to a young woman experiencing her loss of innocence, and her profound relationship with a stranger made the experience transformative.'

To me, Lost in Translation portrayed the coming-of-age journey of a young woman as she transitions from innocence to experience, forming a deep connection with a stranger that changes her profoundly. The collaboration between actress Scarlett Johansson and artist David Salle elevated a standard celebrity photoshoot to a new level of artistic partnership, according to Tatijana Shoan, Editor in Chief of As If Magazine & Photographer. Scarlett’s enthusiasm for this unique project, guided by David’s exceptional vision, made my role as a photographer truly special. The result is a captivating fusion of art and fashion, with Scarlett immersed in Salle’s paintings, leading to the creation of exclusive, collectible dresses that may become coveted museum pieces in the future.
